Monteverdi Tuscany Wedding Photographer

Inspired by people, place & atmosphere.
Documented with soul on film and digital.

I believe the most honest stories are told when people are given the space to simply be, and for the day to unfold naturally. I move through a wedding like a guest, with a photojournalistic approach shaped by intuition, light and feeling. Working across film and digital, I’m drawn to what is real and unforced, documenting each moment with care and intention.

Osaka. Warning: this post is a little more philo Osaka.

Warning: this post is a little more philosophical than my usual ones. Feel free to keep scrolling if that’s not what you’re in the mood for today. ✌🏼

I’ve been sitting with this thought for a little while. It’s made me reflect on what gives a photograph a sense of soul.

I find the work of artists such as Vivian Maier even more significant and inspiring today, in this digital era.

As I understand it, she never intended for her portraits to be seen. It felt more like an urge to keep doing it.

In a world that rewards being seen at all costs, I sometimes wonder what changes when we want the work to be seen before we even begin making it.

It’s a reminder I need from time to time to make photographs for myself first. I care deeply about my clients, but whether my images resonate with them is ultimately out of my control.

Perhaps that’s why I’ve always felt reluctant to try pleasing an algorithm for popularity or success, but somehow I wasn’t able to put that feeling into words until recently. As the owner of a small business for the past fourteen years, I understand the appeal. However, the more I sit with it, the more I wonder what that pursuit does to the soul. Not just the soul of the work, but our own.

Thanks for reading my little philosophical ramble. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.

Kyoto. I’ve recently enjoyed spending a little ti Kyoto.

I’ve recently enjoyed spending a little time away from social media.

To be entirely honest with you, I’ve been finding it harder to see much meaning in a platform that increasingly fills my feed with influencers, brands and ads rather than the people I care about or those who genuinely inspire me. Maybe I just miss when it felt a little more real and a little less performative.

It sometimes makes me wonder what we might lose when being seen becomes more important than quietly dedicating ourselves to something we genuinely care about.

Anyway, that’s a much bigger conversation than I want to have here. I only mention it because if I’m going to be a little quieter, I thought you deserved to know why. Just know that I’m still around, photographing beautiful weddings and grateful for the people I get to cross paths with.

Our recent time in Japan with my little family was a gentle reminder of the importance of slowing down and working with the seasons. Here is a series of 35mm film photographs, all taken in Kyoto.

One moment that has stayed with me happened in Gion. Photographing geishas is generally discouraged in this part of Kyoto out of respect for their privacy, so it wasn’t something I was actively looking for.

I had my eye in the viewfinder, framing a streetscape, when I heard the sound of wooden sandals approaching. As I looked up, I had no more than a couple of seconds to see this calm, unbothered presence walk into the frame. The street was completely empty, which only added to the ethereal feeling of the scene. I couldn’t help but press the shutter.

The slow night exposure rendered the moment abstract, which felt like a respectful way to hold onto it while preserving the anonymity of the subject.

Those who know me might also know that I don’t par Those who know me might also know that I don’t particularly enjoy being in the spotlight. However, if you’re considering me to document your wedding celebrations, I think it’s only fair that you know a little about the human behind the camera.

Here are a few things about me that you may or may not find relevant when choosing someone to photograph your day.

I was born in Belgium, now call Australia home, and have always felt drawn to quieter, more remote places around the world. I love experiencing different cultures, capturing soulful portraits and documenting atmosphere. In many ways, I think wedding photography relates to this by opening a window into someone’s life for a day.

If I wasn’t a wedding photographer, I’d probably be travelling the world photographing volcanoes.

I met @nastiagladu 18 years ago on the dance floor at Oxford Art Factory in Darlinghurst, and we’ve been inseparable ever since. We’ve now been married for seven years, and I truly love the life that we have made together and how we continually inspire each other to stay curious, keep creating and and pursue what matters most to us.

Life also revolves around our daughter, Mia. Watching her grow has made me appreciate how quickly time passes and how meaningful the simplest moments can be, whether it’s going on a bushwalk, baking a cake together or discovering somewhere new. I love being a dad more than I ever imagined.

When I don’t have a camera in hand, you’ll usually find me making sourdough pizza, dialling in espresso, gardening or, more recently, attempting to make ceramics.

I am deeply inspired by music and cinema, and I’d like to think that influence quietly finds its way into my photography.

That’s it for now. If there’s anything you’d like to know, feel free to ask in the comments. It would be a pleasure to connect.

Nara. We spent two weeks in Nara as a base to exp Nara.

We spent two weeks in Nara as a base to explore Osaka and Kyoto, but it quickly became one of our favourite parts of the trip.

We stayed in a house that was more than 100 years old, and the slower pace made it easy to settle into a routine. We found ourselves returning to the same cafés, workshops and little restaurants, getting to know some of the people behind them along the way.

We’re grateful for every conversation, every warm welcome and all the inspiration we came home with.

As I am slowly coming down after our trip to Japan, I just wanted to share a few favourite frames from my first time in Tokyo.

The more I walked, the more I realised there was no real end to looking. I left feeling like you could spend a lifetime photographing Tokyo and still only scratch the surface.

These are just a few moments that stayed with me.
